One of the main priorities of the Property Institute is to deliver timely, relevant, and engaging professional development of high quality.

We believe strongly in continuing education, both for the ongoing personal development of our members, and to ensure that professionals working in property-related fields have access to quality property-related training material.

We aim to be constantly improving our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme, and regularly take feedback and ideas from our members to broaden and expand the sorts of education that we provide. 

An initial qualification cannot prepare the professionals of today with all the skills and knowledge they will need throughout their working lives.

Property professionals need to keep abreast of changes in many areas, including technology, legislation, methodology, business management, marketing and quality assurance.

We have a responsibility to ourselves, our fellow members and our clients to ensure that we are current with professional and industry standards and best practice – and the best way to achieve this is to continually reflect on and plan your training and development based on your current and future professional needs.

The Institute CPD model is based on a continuous cycle of Planning, Action, Evaluation and Reflection. Members are encouraged to follow this cycle, to evaluate the result or impact of the CPDactivity and to plan how they will build their professional skills and knowledge.

Members are required to complete a minimum of 20 CPD credits per year (one credit is equivalent to one hour of learning time) - and these credits must come from the following categories:
1. Property Institute Events (National office or Branch): minimum of 5 CPDcredits
2. Property related topics : minimum of 10CPD credits
3. Non Property related topics: minimum of 5 CPD credits
All members must also participate in and successfully complete the Institute’s Professional Ethics and Professional Standards modules once every four years.

A member’s failure to maintain and improve professional competence is a breach of a significant professional duty and may be subject to disciplinary action - and it is also unfair to those members who do comply with their CPD requirements to allow non-complying members to claim the same professional status.

Members should expect to be audited once every five years.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the participation in ongoing education to improve knowledge/skills and to develop the personal qualities necessary for the execution of professional and technical duties throughout the practitioner's working life.

Online Learning

The Property Institute's e-learning site is available to all members looking to access educational material.

Courses consist of a series of topics, online glossaries, audio commentaries, links to external websites and videos.

Members can claim CPD points for the module once it has been successfully completed. Modules can be purchased here.

Once a module is purchased once, members will retain access to it permanently, and modules will be updated periodically. Any major changes to a module will be notified to enrolled members and they will be able to claim additional CPD points for modules on a pro rata basis after successfully completing any associated assessment.
