About the Event

Climate change is increasingly a ‘thing’ in our political discourse. Our commitment to the requirements of the Paris accord in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, makes us as a nation legally liable for achieving these targets. The impact of climate change and its’ real, perceived or potential effects are increasingly becoming a feature of the planning, consenting, design and construction sectors. There is no doubt significant changes in building type, use and technology are heading our way.

However the effect of climate change on the property sector tends to be little considered by the political classes – and yet the property and valuation sectors are central to future government in terms of housing policy and infrastructural development for the future. This is an unfortunate contradiction.

This presentation seeks to explore some of the key practical and technological solutions that need to be considered going forward. The presentation will consider the effects on valuation thinking and practice and the future of the property and valuation sector in the context of the future of the property sector.
